  • Intro:

Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive Mike Hooper discusses Welsh 400m hurdler Rhys Williams' expulsion from the Commonwealth Games after failing a drugs test at the Glasgow Grand Prix on 11 July.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mike Hooper, Chief Executive, Commonwealth Games Federation (on Wales athlete Rhys Williams' positive dope test casting a shadow on the Games):

"The reality is the emphasis these days is on smart testing, working on a collaborative approach with a number of anti-doping organizations. Now the case you are particularly referencing, the Welsh athlete (Rhys Williams) was undertaken by UK (United Kingdom) as pre-game, not part of the Games times itself. So I don't believe that it anyway has put a cloud over the Games. I think it shows it sends a very strong signal to anyone who go down that path, if you take that choice, you will be caught."
