Australia's Michael Shelley won the first athletics gold of the Commonwealth Games, as the runner-up from four years ago secured the men's marathon crown on Sunday.

Thousands of spectators braved the damp conditions to watch the race.

Kenya's John Ekiru Kelai looked to be set to retain his Commonwealth crown, but he fell away towards the end allowing Shelley to come through.

Meanwhile, England's Charlotte Kerwood sealed gold in the women's double trap shooting event.

There was more success in the men's double trap, Steven Scott producing a seamless performance to claim gold ahead of compatriot Matthew French.
