  • Intro:

Shakhtar Donetsk got their season off to a winning start in Lviv, after a 2-0 win over Metalurh Zaporizhya 2-0 in the Ukrainian Premier League on Sunday (27th July).

    Script:

Shakhtar Donetsk were looking to put the political unrest behind them as they began their UPL league campaign against Metalurh Zaporizhya

The region is currently in the midst of war and several Shakhtar players have refused to return due to this.

The match started with a minute's silence to remember the victims of Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17.

The hosts then got off to the perfect start.

Some woeful defending allowed Luiz Adriano to latch onto Yaroslav Rakitskiy's long ball and give Shakhtar the lead inside 12 seconds.

Oleksandr Gladkiy should have made 2-0 with his header, but he somehow managed to find the crossbar instead of the net.

Gladkiy eventually did find the net putting the finishing touch to a nice move by Shakhtar.

Shakhtar had a chance to make it three after the break, this time around Gladkiy was denied by the Metalurh goalkeeper.

It finished 2-0, the champions starting their campaign with a comfortable win.
