Intro:
Bernhard Langer won his second Senior British Open championship on Sunday (27th July), after finishing a record 13 strokes clear of Colin Montgomerie at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales.
Script:
Bernhard Langer produced a scintillating performance at Royal Porthcawl in Wales to lift his second Senior Open Championship.
The German annihilated the field in Wales as he won by a 13-shot margin.
Langer had previously won the event in 2010 at Carnoustie and should have won last year but for a dismal final hole that saw him go a play-off, which he went to lose.
However, his performance this year more than made up for that, his winning margin shattering the previous best of seven shots set by Bob Charles in 1989.
It also sets a reocrd as the largest Senior major margin of victory.
As well as a handsome cheque for £200,000, Langer secures a spot at next year's Open Championship at St Andrews.
Colin Montgomerie finished in second place, this despite bogeying the second and third holes in his final round.
He battled back to record a 2-under 69, 5-under for the tournament.
