Vladimir Turbaevskiy of Russia and Poland's Maria Czesnik emerged victorious at the 2014 Jiayuguan ITU World Cup Triathlon on Saturday.

Both athletes secured their first World Cup victories in China.

Turbaevskiy survived the gruelling conditions better than the rest in the men's race.

He outlasted American Jarrod Shoemaker and compatriot Igor Polyanskiy in the dry Gobi Desert heat, running clear in the final kilometre.

In the women's race, Czesnik also showed great patience and stamina to run to victory, outpacing both Yurie Kato of Japan and Denmark's Ditte Kristensen.

The Polish athlete made her move late on the first lap of the run.

It would prove to be the decisive moment of the race as she stayed clear of Kato and Kristensen, who both recorded their first-ever World Cup podiums.
