  • Intro:

Australia's netball team reflect on their hard-fought 49-48 victory over England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday (26th July).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Caitlin Bassett, Australian goal shooter (on her game winning shot):

"I was a little frustrated because up until that last quarter I'd been shooting quite well. I'd had a few missed and I knew there was a really important goal for us to steady and that we had the next centre pass so I knew I had to nail that one. It was a beautiful pass in from Ravi, it was just perfect. I wanted to reward her for that beautiful pass."

SOUNDBITE (English) Julie Corletto, Australian netballer (on how tough that games ranks):

"That was definitely up there. Like I said before it was definitely a physical game both us and them. I think it was games like that that make this game exciting. Everybody was putting their body on the line right down to the last few seconds of the game. We were just trying turnover the ball and get it down to our shooters who can shoot great shots like Caitlin did at the end of the game there."

SOUNDBITE (English) Lisa Alexander, Australian head coach (on the competitiveness of the tournament):

"This is the beauty of this tournament. We're showing the sporting world that netball is coming of age. Our fellow competitors are getting better and better. With more resources and more professionalism you'll see far greater and closer contests. Particularly England's improvement, but you've also got Jamaica hanging around there, they're doing a great job. Malawi pushed New Zealand all the way. That's not an odd thing to happen. That's what is going to happen in our sport and that's wonderful."
