  • Intro:

Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk kicked off the 2014-15 Ukraine Premier League season with a 2-0 win at Metalurg Donetsk on Friday (25th July).

    Script:

Due to the unrest in the Donbass region in the east of the country, a number of Ukraine's top teams are having to relocate.

Metalurg Donetsk are one of that number, so home at least for now, is Lviv in the west of the country.

Unfamiliar surroundings for Metalurg - they certainly didn't look at home against Dnipro.

The visitors dominated the first half - and turned that into goals after the interval.

In the 64th minute, 24-year-old midfielder Yevhen Konoplyanka made it 1-0.

Konoplyanka's 29th goal for the only professional club he has ever played for was probably one of his best.

The points were made safe in the 71st minute after Roman Zozulya was brought down in the box by Vyacheslav Checher.

Brazilian forward Matheus Nascimento converted the penalty.

Metalurg were presented with a golden opportunity to at least claw back a consolation in the 91st minute - but Alex de Silva could not beat Denis Boyko from the spot-kick.

2-0 the final score in the opening match of the new season.
