  • Intro:

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew promised on Tuesday that his team will play to win in memory of the two supporters who lost their lives on Flight MH 17 - John Alder and Liam Sweeney were making their way to New Zealand for the pre-season tour, when the plane they were on crashed in eastern Ukraine.

SOUNDBITE (English): Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager:

"It's important that first we represent ourselves in the right manner, especially in the light of losing John and Liam and our supporters who were travelling out here that we show that we conduct ourselves well on the pitch - and off the pitch - and get some strong results because that's what they'd wanted and that's what we want. In memory of those guys, in particular, we want to make this a successful tour."

SOUNDBITE (English): Alan Pardew, Newcastle United manager:

"Owners and managers come and go as players do but the fans are always there, and these two guys in particular to go to the lengths that they were going to to come here has brought home just how important they are to us - and sometimes it puts it into context what we do in that manner. So, the only thing we can do in their memory is to really conduct ourselves to the best of our ability on this trip and we're going to do that - and this season give the fans hopefully something to remember them by."
