  • Intro:

Italy's Rossella Fiamingo and France's Ulrich Robeiri took the epee gold medals at the World Fencing Championships in Kazan on Sunday (July 20).

    Script:

After Arianna Errigo's gold in the women's foil there was more joy for the Italians on Sunday at the World Fencing Championships.

But it wasn't easy for Rosella Fiamingo in the epee final against Britta Heidemann.

The German was ahead for much of the contest, opening up a 6-3 advantage early on.

But a chat with the coach - a change of approach - and Fiamingo powered back to take victory 15-11 and the gold medal.

Elsewhere, France struck gold for the first time at the championships in the men's epee final.

It was the same scoreline as the women's gold medal match, with Ulrich Robeiri defeating Park Kyoungdoo of South Korea to take gold much to his delight.
