Barcelona began their pre-season training session on Friday with a number of notable absentees.

With their World Cup stars still on holiday following the disappointing Spanish adventure, the squad looked rather depleted.

On top of that, the Blaugrana were without their talisman and former captain Carles Puyol for the first time in 15 years following his retirement at the end of last season.

Finally, Luis Suarez was also missing given he has been banned from all football-related activity, something that prevented Barcelona from presenting him as a new signing.

Luis Enrique who spent time in charge of Barcelona's B team had a number of youth products present, some of which played under him.

One of the positions certain to see competition next season is the goalkeeper.

With both Victor Valdes and Pinto leaving the Catalan club in the summer, Barcelona signed two new goalkeepers.

Former Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper ter Stegen signed on a free transfer.

He was followed by 31-year-olf Chile captain Claudio Bravo who signed on a four-year deal from Real Sociedad.

Cantera goalkeeper Jordi Matip is also training with the squad and is likely to start Barca's first friendly match.
