The summer version of the Tough Guy assault course took place on Saturday and Sunday (12th and 13th July) claiming to the world's toughest - complete with barbed wire and explosions.

Looks can certainly be deceiving.

When one think of the world's toughest race, a marathon or ironman tend to be what springs to mind.

However, despite competitors sporting some questionnable outfits, this claims to the world's toughest race and has been aptly named Tough Guy.

The event organiser is called Mr. Mouse, and he explains the reasons behind the claim:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mr Mouse, race organiser:

"Tough Guy is a taste of what men were made of in the Great War, which is 1914-1918. It continued into the next war and continued into the 50s. We were trained to obey, to be honourable, to be sharing with our friends and to have virtue and Tough Guy makes everyone that person."

Sporting a mustache even Dick Dastardly could be proud, the course he has devised is just as devious as the schemes of Wacky Races character.

The participants have to endure barbed wire traps, water, mud, hill, tyre tracks and even explosions and electric shock.

The official name for the Tough Guy course is the Nettle Warrior, an event that was first held back in 1998.

This year Gavin McCaugherty has earned the right to call himself Tough Guy, while the money raised will go towards Mr Mouse's horse sanctury.
