North and South Korea meet to discuss Asian Games

    South Korea and North Korea hold talks discussing the North's participation in the Incheon Asian Games.

    The 2014 Asian Games are set to start on September 19 in Incheon, South Korea.

    Thursday saw a historic moment as South Korea and North Korea began working level talks to discuss a possible participation by the North in the upcoming games.

    Delegations of the two countries met in the demilitarised zone at the border village of Panmunjom.

    The talks are being held in order to establish methods of transportation as well as the cost of the North Korean delegation when the visit the South.

    North Korea boycotted the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Summer Olympics, both of which were held Seoul.

    However, the nation attended the 2002 Asian Games held in Busan, the 2003 University Games in Daegu and the 2005 Asian Athletics Championhip in Incheon.

    It remains unclear whether North Korea will be present at the upcoming games, but the hope is that sport can once again, even if only briefly, help bridge the gap between the countries.
