His record may well read 46 wins and no defeats, but could his most difficult bout be just around the corner?

Floyd Mayweather is preparing for his rematch with Marcos Maidana in September, a man who pushed Mayweather all the way before losing on points in May.

The Argentinian landed 221 punches on Mayweather, more than any other fighter in 38 fights where punch stats were compiled.

But his opponent was typically buoyant about his chances in a promotional news conference in Times Square on Monday.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Floyd Mayweather, Undisputed Welterweight Champ (Talks about his legacy in boxing)

"Like I said before we don't have to change up nothing. We won, we don't have to change up anything now like I said before I'm faced with, like I said, I'm faced with so much so many different things. As far as the first time around, low blows, rabbit punches, head butts, kneeing I mean, c'mon man in the sport of boxing of course we know it's a brutal sport but let's keep it clean."

"The most important thing at this particular time is leaving the sport being the smartest fighter and the smartest business, not just the smartest businessman ever to come into the sport of boxing."

Maidana sports a record of 35 wins and four losses heading into the encounter in Las Vegas.

But should he beat Mayweather to take a 36th victory then that would surely be his finest hour.
