Gastein title a 'relief' - Petkovic

Monday, July 14 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Fourth seed Andrea Petkovic of Germany wins the WTA Bad Gastein tournament after defeating Shelby Rogers 6-3, 6-3 on Sunday.

    Script:

Andrea Petkovic of Germany faced American qualifier Shelby Rogers in the Gastein Ladies final on Sunday.

The world number 20's preferred service is clay and she wasted no time in moulding a first set victory.

In the second, Petkovic unleashed her trademark forehand winner to take control.

Rather than put the match beyond doubt, this sparked a mini-comeback from Rogers, who went on to break the 26-year-old.

But the world number 147 failed to hold her serve, handing a fourth-career title to Petkovic.

SOUNDBITE: (German) Andrea Petkovic, Gastein champion:

"I am really happy", Petkovic said before adding: "I was very nervous before and wanted this win really bad. It was not easy, Shelby plays very aggressive tennis and doesn't give you many chances. That's why I'm actually more relieved than happy, because I really really wanted to win today."

Petkovic enjoys rock music and she'll have plenty to dance about tonight.
