Hat-trick for Hancock

Monday, July 14 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Greg Hancock wins the British Speedway Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday to equal three-time world champion Jason Crump’s record haul of three gold medals in the Welsh capital.

    Script:

The Millennium Stadium saw a capacity crowd as the FIM Speedway Grand Prix made a stop in Wales for round seven.

Greg Hancock and local favourite Tai Woffinden were set to continue their title battle on a warm Saturday night.

Despite a slow start that saw Hancock out of contention and Woffinden riding consistently, the mostly incident-free night came down to the final.

Hancock lined up beside Woffinden, with Darcy Ward and Krzysztof Kasprzak also looking to cause an upset in the final.

American Hancock led from the line and used his experience to ride defensively and hold position.

Despite an attempt from Woffinden on lap three the Californian slammed the door shut and rolled on to seal the victory.

But with the greater points tally on the night Woffinden grabs the championship lead on 90 points, with Hancock three behind in second and Darcy Ward occupying third place overall.
