Pujara gives credit to England batsmen

Sunday, July 13 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara was philosophical about his side's inability to part England's world record-breaking final pair earlier than they did on Saturday's (July 12) fourth day of the first Test against England in Nottingham.

"I think it was. But we knew that it would not be easy to get them (Joe Root and James Anderson) out because even we had more than a hundred runs partnership for the last wicket. But I think they batted really well. Credit goes to them, I think especially Root. He did not allow Anderson to come on strike in the first three or four balls. And their plan worked out. But I think it was obviously disappointing because we got seven early wickets and then the lower order batsmen batted really well for them."

(On Joe Root) "No I don't think so (find Root's resistance annoying). I think he is a very good batsman. It is always a pleasure to watch him. I have been following him since the Indian series when England came to India. He batted there really well. So he is a good batsman. We do respect him but at the same time, hopefully that we will get him out early in the next Test match."

"I think the ball was not turning much and once the ball was older, there was not enough help for the fast bowlers. So it was really difficult to get the batsmen out. Either you have to get them caught somewhere, or LBW or bowled because the balls were not carrying to the slips. So it was a kind of wicket where if you apply yourself it is really difficult to get out. So overall, I don't think we should be disappointed with the bowling performance."
