England continue their summer of cricket on Wednesday when the first Test against India begins at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.

The hosts are winless in their last eight Test matches, stretching back to the last home Test of 2013 when they drew against Australia at the Oval.

They are about to embark on a five-match series, the first time they have played such a series against a team other than Australia since a 1-0 win in the West Indies in 2008-09.

England have won their last five Tests at Trent Bridge - against Australia (2013), the West Indies (2012), India (2011), Pakistan (2010) and New Zealand (2008).

Opening bowler Jimmy Anderson has taken 49 of his 355 Test wickets at the ground, at an average of just 17 runs per wicket, compared to a career average of 30.

However, England are troubled by the form of captain and opening batsman Alastair Cook, who has struggled in the past year.

Cook is England's fifth-highest Test run-scorer, with 8,125 runs, and has made 25 centuries in 104 matches since his debut in India in 2006.

But his form is under scrutiny after nearly 14 months and 24 Test innings without a ton.

After Trent Bridge the five-Test series will visit Lord's in London, the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, Old Trafford in Manchester and the Oval in London.
