  • Intro:

Reaction after Marcel Kittel won the first stage of the 2014 Tour de France in Harrogate, England on Saturday.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Marcel Kittel, stage winner (on winning the first stage of the Tour de France for a second year in a row):

"It's a great win because I think it's harder to win a second time in a row and the team did a great, great job. I think we did a perfect lead out today. We had no big chaos in the final. It was a really nice victory and I'm really happy I can give that jersey back to the boys for their hard work."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Marcel Kittel, stage winner (on how the stage developed):

"It was a very tough one. The good thing was together with the other sprinter teams we could control the day, make it an easy day. The breakaway was going really quick, we could control it, go relatively easy through the mountain qualifications. That was very important to make a mass sprint with fresh sprinters.."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Marcel Kittel, stage winner (on Mark Cavendish's crash in the final sprint):

"That's of course absolutely not what we want as riders here. I hope that he gets well soon, that there is no serious injury. It's of course very disappointing to crash in a sprint like this in front of his home crowd..."
