    Tyson Gay made his return from a one-year doping ban on Thursday (3 July) at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne, but could only finish second behind Justin Gatlin.

    Tyson Gay made his return from a one-year doping ban on Thursday, but could only finish second in the 100m behind Justin Gatlin.

    The event took place at the Diamond League meeting in Lausanne as Gatlin, the 2004 Olympic champion, clocked a time of 9.80 seconds to take the win.

    Whilst in the men's 200m event Alonso Edward was the surprising winner with a time of 19.84. Yohan Blake finished sixth in 20.48 after a 2013 season marred by a hamstring injury.

    Elsewhere in the men's 400 meters, Olympic champion Kirani James outpaced LaShawn Merritt in the final straight to record a time of 43.74.

    In the men's pole vault, Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie outclassed the field, clearing 5.87 at his first attempt.

    And in the women's javelin Barbora Spotakova dominated event with a third attempt reaching 66.72 metres.
