  • Intro:

Update on day 37 of the Oscar Pistorius murder trial from Pretoria, South Africa on Thursday (3rd July).

    Script:

UPSOUND: Wayne Derman, Professor of Sport: (NOT IN VISION, INCLUDES VISUALS OF COURT):

"You have got a paradox of an individual who is supremely able and you have got an individual who is significantly disabled. And that template of him with his arms crossing the finishing line and competing in able bodied competitions represents his triumph over his disability. And that template is what he hold ups to perform against each and every day but the reality is there are times when he is here. And that difference in this template of the supremely able individual and of what we see here causes, in my opinion, a significant amount of stress and anxiety."

UPSOUND: Wayne Derman, Professor of Sport: (NOT IN VISION, INCLUDES VISUALS OF COURT):

"In this context my lady fleeing is not an option. The individual has no lower legs so to flee is not option and if one finds oneself without the ability to flee the other option is to fight. So to approach the danger in this is understandable psychological phenomena."
