British Olympic and Paralympic officials have chosen Minas Tennis Club in the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte as their base in the lead up to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

British Olympic officials have chosen the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte as their base for the build up to the 2016 Olympic Games.

The athletes will prepare for the games at the Minas Tennis Club, one of Brazil's oldest and most prestigious sports institutions. The venue has hosted several national and international sporting events in the past.

And the president of the club, explained the agreement from both parties -

SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese) Luiz Gustavo Lage, president of Minas Tennis Club:

"We had offers from five countries and in the end we went for the British Olympic Association. We are very thankful because Great Britain is the world's third Olympic power. So having the recognition from the world's third Olympic power is a great source of pride for us. It is the greatest milestone for us in many years."

Belo Horizonte is only a one-hour flight from Rio de Janeiro and will provide the British team with a training base close to the Olympic host city.
