Intro:Stacy Lewis made a seven-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship by one stroke on Sunday, at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas.
Script:Despite rain soaking the Pinnacle Country Club on Saturday night, the LPGA were able to complete the three-round Walmart Arkansas Championship on Sunday.
Michelle Wie began the final round with a two-shot lead after back-to-back 66s, but she bogeyed three holes around the turn to fall out of contention
eventually finishing tied for eighth place.
Chella Choi, however, got her third round going in fine fashion. Choi birdied the second hole before a hole-in-one at the par-three, 166-yard sixth on her
way to a 69.
The South Korean closed at nine under par, tied for sixth place with Suzann Pettersen.
Pettersen had a quiet final round with three birdies and one bogey on a card of 69. The Norwegian, who missed the cut at the U.S. Open, finished with her
fifth top-10 of the year.
Top-ranked Stacy Lewis was the fan favourite this week thanks to a collegiate career at the nearby University of Arkansas.
The gallery roared when she rolled in a birdie putt on the 16th - her second in a row - to tie Cristie Kerr at the top of the leaderboard at 11 under par.
Lewis then parred the 17th hole but came down the 18th and hit a solid approach from the fairway that left her with a seven-foot putt for birdie.
Much to the delight of the Arkansas crowd, Lewis rolled in the putt to take the lead. She signed a final round score of 65 and finished at 12-under.
Kerr, playing in the group behind, had a chance to match Lewis at 12 under but her approach left her with a 30-foot birdie putt and her attempt came up
short.
Kerr parred to close out a 67 and finished tied for second place with Lydia Ko and Angela Stanford, giving Lewis her third LPGA Tour title of the year and
11th overall.
