The 16th edition of the Klagenfurt, Austria Ironman took place on Sunday (29th June).

More that 3000 athletes from over 60 countries gathered in the Austrian town for the event which consisted of a 3.8 kilometre swim, 180.2 kilometre bike ride and finished with a 42.2 kilometre run.

Ivan Rana of Spain claimed the men's title with a time of seven hours 48 minutes and 43 seconds, after an incredible performance in the bike and run.

He missed out on breaking the record set by Marino Vanhoenacker Belgium back in 2011 by just few minutes.

Christian Kramer of Germany took second place, finishing just minutes before David Plese of Slovakia.

The best Austrian athlete was Andreas Giglmayr, a rookie on the full distance, who finished in eight hours nine minutes and six seconds.

Faris Al -sultan, who was in third place after the swim, had to retire from the race after a bike breakdown.

In the women's race, American Linsey Corbin proved again what superb form she is in.

She smashed the course record with a time of eight hours 42 minutes and 42 seconds, destroying the field and seizing the title from compatriot Mary Beth Ellis.

Simone Brandli of Switzerland came second, just before the best Austrian female athlete Lisa Hutthaler, winner of the IRONMAN 70.3 in Luxembourg earlier this month.
