Free agents in sport don't get much bigger than this.

LeBron James, basketball's biggest star, is opting out of the final two years of his Miami Heat contract, which is worth more than 25 million pounds.

The NBA's most valuable player on four occasions, he will become a free agent at the start of July, and that could mean a move away from Florida.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers forward won back-to-back NBA titles with the Heat in 2012 and 2013, but their defence came to a crushing end in this year's finals at the hands of San Antonio Spurs.

And there is speculation that James may make a sensational return to where he spent the first seven years of his NBA career.

Cleveland haven't qualfied for the playoffs since their prodigal son left in 2010.

According to Forbes, James was the fourth-highest paid athlete in the world in 2013, with estimated earnings of 37 million pounds.

He averaged 27.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 77 games last season for the Heat.
