  • Intro:

Michelle Wie finished Friday's (June 20th) second round of the U.S. Women's Open with back-to-back birdies for a two-under-par round of 68 and a three-stroke lead heading into the weekend.

    Script:

Early showers in North Carolina threatened to cause further delays at the US Women's open at Pinehurst No. 2 on Friday.

However, once the weather cleared, the LPGA was able to complete the remainder of the first round and all of the second round play.

Michelle Wie started the round a stroke off the lead and continued her good form into Friday's action.

Wie birdied her final two holes of the day to get to four-under-par, her second straight round 68 leaving her three shots clear of the field.

Lucy Li made all the headlines prior to the tournament for being the youngest qualifier in US Women's Open history at 11 years old.

The highlight for the Californinan were two birdies - as she went around the course carding an eight-over 78.

It was Li's second straight 78, meaning she misses the cut at 16-over-par, nevertheless, given her age, an impressive debut and a moment to remember.

Lexi Thompson closed the day in second at Pinehurst No.2 as she sank three straight birdies to leave her on one-under-par.

Finally, world number one Stacy Lewis opened the tournament with an excellent round of 67 but was unable to carry her form across to day two.

Lewis carded three birdies and six bogeys on Friday to drop to level-par and a share of third place with Amy Yang and Minjee Lee.
