The brand new National Stadium in Singapore was the venue for the inaugral World Club 10s rugby competition on Saturday.

The opening day saw each team play three matches, with each encounter lasting 20 minutes.

In Pool A, the Blues from Auckland ended the day with a perfect three wins from three, defeating London Welsh in their final game.

The New Zealand based team started strongly, Melani Nanai putting them ahead with a try in the very first minute.

The Blues went on to dominate opening up a 27-0 lead.

London Welsh did pull a try back through Jon Lewis as he darted through the Blues defence, but it proved a mere consolation as it ended 27-7.

In the final match of day one, the Cardiff Blues took on the Brumbies in Pool B.

The Australian side were looking to make it three out of three as well, and led through an early try.

Cardiff soon pulled one back through Ellis Jenkins to level the match.

The teams proved evenly matched throughout the encounter, with the Brumbies only pulling away towards the end.

They sealed a 19-12 victory and it gave them a perfect start.
