San Antonio Spurs celebrate NBA championship with river parade

    The San Antonio Spurs celebrated their fifth NBA championship with a river parade in San Antonio on Wednesday (18 June).

    Script:

    The San Antonio Spurs celebrated their NBA title on Wednesday night in downtown San Antonio.

    The Spurs beat the Heat 104-87 on Sunday to win their fifth NBA championship.

    Spurs fans endured 90-degree heat to line the River Walk and stand outside of the Alamodome up to five hours before the festivities began. The City of San Antonio estimated about 100,000 people attended the River Walk parade.

    The celebration began with a river parade along the the River Walk from the Arneson River Theater, past the Convention Center and ended at the Navarro Street Bridge.

    Barges carried Spurs players and coaches, Spurs officials, ex-Spurs players, along with live musical entertainers down the San Antonio River.

    The celebration later moved to the Alamodome for a special ceremony where Spurs players, coaches and local officials addressed the fans and showed off their latest championship trophy.

    The City of San Antonio estimated more than 75,000 were at the Alamodome and the fans soaked up the moment as if it was the city's first championship.
