Stage five of the Tour de Sangkarak from Payakumbuh City to Solok Regency in Indonesia took place on Wednesday.

The half-way point of this nine stage event is 102 kilometres long.

Indonesian cyclist Hari Fitriyanto and fellow sprinter, Spaniard Edgar Nohales of Team 7 Eleven, were among those to make an early break from the peloton.

But they were unable to build up a significant advantage ahead of the chasing pack.

Another Spaniard, Óscar Pujol, joined them at the front of the group and led the three home to win the stage. The Polygon Sweet Nice Team rider came first in a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 42 seconds. Fitriyanto took second, whilst Nohales finished third.

Iranian Amir Zargari was five seconds off the lead, which ensures he retains the overall lead and the coveted yellow jersey.

Stage six is a 111 kilometre route from Padang Panjang to Solok City and begins on Thursday.
