Not a good day for some of the top seeds in Halle. Fifth seed Richard Gasquet exited in the first round, he lost to Robin Haase 6-4, 6-4.

Haase will now play Alejandro Falla in the next round

Also out is 6th seed Mikhail Youzhny who lost to 6 foot 10 inch Ivo Karlovic, at that size, his serve is some weapon as Youzhny found out as he lost 6-3, 6-4 in just over an hour.

The Croatian goes on to face Yen-Hsun Lu for a place in round three.

But Gael Monfils looks in good form, after returning to the world's top 20 this week he beat Benjamin Becker in straight sets to qualify.

But all of them will have to step up their game to beat one man in Halle.
