Cilic out as Lopez and Anderson win

  • Intro:

There were wins for number seven seed Kevin Anderson of South Africa and Spanish number 10 seed Feliciano Lopez in early action on day two of the Aegon Championships at the Queen's Club in London, but ninth seed Marin Cilic of Croatia, the 2012 champion, was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Australia's Marinko Matosevic.

    Script:

Day two at Queen's Club in West London, the traditional curtain raiser for Wimbledon and plenty of familiar faces out on court.

Feliciano Lopez's match against Dusan Lajovic had to be held over from Monday because of rain and Lopez needed all three sets to get past his opponent.

Lopez finished off in style though to go through 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1. Up next for him four-time champion Lleyton Hewitt.

And Hewitt's unseeded compatriot Marinko Matosevic pulled off one of the results of the day as he beat the 2012 champion and last year's runner-up, Marin Cilic, 6-4, 6-4.

Cilic has been in fine form, but Matosevic was too strong and he now faces a second round match against Lukas Lacko or Matthew Ebden.

It was a tough day for Britain's Dan Evans, he lost his second round match against seventh seed Kevin Anderson in just 65 minutes. The South African's huge serve proving difficult for Evans to handle.

He will play either Sergiy Stakhovsky Vasek Pospisil for a place in the last eight.
