Australia's winning run at the Men's Hockey World Cup continued when they thrashed old enemies England 5-0 in the Hague.

Barely 40 seconds were on the clock when Matt Gohdes gave Australia the lead, and the Kookaburras never looked back.

Liam de Young doubled the lead from a penalty corner on 13 minutes and Jamie Dwyer tapped in from close range on 29 to give the Aussies a daunting 3-0 advantage.

With just three seconds left in the first half, Kieran Govers got his stick on a high lob pass and directed it past the English goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

Aran Zalewski completed the rout three minutes into the second half as Australia made it four wins from four.

England, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the tournament and remain on seven points.

In the women's tournament, New Zealand took on Japan.

Sophie Cocks scored after just five minutes from a penalty corner - one of ten penalty corners New Zealand were awarded.

Anita Punt grabbed a brace and Katie Glynn also scored in a 4-1 win for the Black Sticks, while Yuri Nagai grabbed a consolation for Japan.
