Uchima leads after first stage of Tour of Singkarak

    Kohei Uchima won Saturday's opening stage of the Tour de Singkarak in Indonesia.

    Two hundred top riders from 20 teams and 23 countries assembled on the line for the start of Indonesia's+Tour de Singkarak.

    The first stage, the shortest, was a gentle introduction to the nine-day event and conducted on flat roads.

    Starting from Padang Pariaman, the beach of Ganoriah was the finish line nearly 100 kilometres away.

    Kohei Uchima from the Japan Cycling Federation took the early honours.

    Uchima stopped the clock at two hours 11 minutes and 51 seconds to secure the yellow jersey.

    Ahmed Mirza Alhammadi from the UAE led a quartet, three seconds in arrears of Uchima.

    Winner of the Tour de Singkarak 2012, Oscar Pujol Munoz from Spain came in third.

    The sixth Tour de Singkarak has nine stages adding up to a total distance of 1,250 kilometres.

    The 123.5 km second stage moves from Padang to Pasaman.
