Wie was in fine form from start to finish, with a birdie on the 15th taking the her to 4-under par. And the American then continued her fine putting, and read the break well, with a long birdie on the 17th hole for 5-under.

Elsewhere Sweden's Anna Nordqvist made a birdie on the 15th hole to reach 4-under, but fell back two shots by the end of her day, at 2 under par.

Whilst second-ranked Inbee Park would make birdie as well on the 16th hole for 2-under par. Park shot 69.

But the day belonged to Wie, who Wie is seeking her second victory in Canada after winning the 2010 Canadian Women's Open. Wie found another birdie on the 18th hole to reach 6-under par,
