Ivanovic & Kvitová exit French Open

Sunday, June 01 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

There were shock defeats for Rome Open semi-finalist Ana Ivanovic and world number six Petra Kvitová in the third round of Roland Garros on Saturday. There were no such upsets for Simona Halep, Jelena Janković and Sara Errani, who all progressed to the last 16.

    Script:

Rome Open semi-finalist Ana Ivanovic lost in straight sets against world number 24 Lucie Šafářová in the Roland Garros third round on Saturday.

Ivanovic hit this wild forehand to lose 6-3 6-3.

Kuznetsova enjoyed causing an upset of her own, when she knocked out world number six Petra Kvitová.

The Russian came back from a set down and held her nerve in this long rally to win 6-7 6-1 9-7. Next up for Kuznetsova is another Czech left-hander, Lucie Šafářová.

There was no such scare for Romanian Simona Halep, who enjoyed a straight sets defeat of María Teresa Torró Flor.

Halep hit this towering forehand winner straight off the Spaniard's serve to record a 6-3 6-0 victory in Paris.

Sixth-seed Jelena Janković eased into the last 16 with a comfortable victory against Romanian Sorana Cîrstea.

The 2010 Roland Garros semi-finalist's 6-1 6-2 win earns her a fourth round match against Sara Errani.

The Italian made it through to the next round after an equally hassle-free contest against Israeli Julia Glushko.

Errani's 6-0 6-1 victory keeps alive her hopes of beating her previous best run in the French capital, when she finished runner-up two years ago.
