Sixth seed Jelena Jankovic faced Kurumi Nara of Japan in the second round of the French Open on Thursday.

24 hours after both Williams sisters crashed out at the same stage, Jankovic made light work of her opponent.

She took the first set 7-5 before powering through the second, converting her first match point, for a 7-5 6-0 win.

Fifth seed Petra Kvitova was also a straight sets winner on Thursday when she faced Marina Erakovic of New Zealand.

Her 6-4, 6-4 wins sets up a meeting with 27th seed - and 2009 Champion - Svetlana Kuznetsova for a place in the fourth round.

Fourth seed Simona Halep faced Heather Watson of Great Britain in her second round match aiming to reach the third round of Roland Garros for the first time.

Halep took a comfortable opening set 6-2, and secured her place in the third round when she took the second set 6-4.

2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic is also through as she beat Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine in the final match of the day.

Seeded 11 this year, Ivanovic took a 7-5, 6-2 win to advance to round three.
