    Round up of action from the French Open on Wednesday as Venus and Serena Williams were both knocked out in the second round of the competition. Elsewhere, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer secured their places in the next round.

    The second round of the 2014 French Open got underway on Wednesday.
    2002 champion Venus Williams faced Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia,
    Williams took the first set 6-2.
    But Schmiedlova won the second set 6-3 and thengrabbed her emphatic 2-6 6-3 6-4 with a sublime cross court backhand to book her place in the third round.
    Top seed and defending champion Serena Williams faced Garbine Muguruza of Spain .
    Williams surrendered the opening set meekly, 6-2.
    Muguruza could scarcely believe her luck at coming up against an out of sorts Williams.
    She produced a nerveless final game to clinch victory on her first match point.
    The 6-2 6-2 defeat was the worst of Williams' 16-year Grand Slam career, in terms of scoreline.
    Second seed Novak Djokovic took on Jeremy Chardy of France in his second round match.
    Continuing his quest to win a maiden French Open title, Djokovic took the opening set 6-1,
    Djokovic went on to take the second set 6-4 before producing a forehand winner on match point to ease himself into the third round.
    2009 French Open champion Roger Federer claimed a clinical 6-3 6-4 6-4 win over 111th ranked Diego Sebastian Schwartzmann to book his place in the third round where he will face 31st seed Dmitry Tursunov.
