  • Intro:

Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, 29, (SUI) crashed out in the first round of the French Open on Monday. Meanwhile Novak Djokovic, 27, (SRB), and Rafael Nadal, 27, (ESP) safely progressed to the second round of Roland Garros.

    Script:

Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka was knocked out in the first round of the French Open by Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain on Monday, in one of the shocks of the tournament so far.

The world number three lost in four sets 4-6, 7-5, 2-6, 0-6. Garcia-Lopez's reward is a tie with Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Italian Open champion Novak Djokovic is safely through to the second round after defeating unseeded Jo?o Sousa.

The Serbian world number two comfortably beat his Portuguese opponent 6-1, 6-2, 6-4.

It was a similarly straightforward story for world number one Rafael Nadal who coasted past Robby Ginepri.

The Madrid Open victory only dropped three games against the American wild card and won 6-0, 6-3, 6-0.

Nadal now faces either France's Paul-Henri Mathieu or 20-year-old Dominic Thiem from Austria in the next round.
