    Justin Gatlin of the United States sets the fastest time in the world this year in the Men's 100 metres at the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai on Sunday (18th May).

    The second Diamond League meeting of the season took place in Shanghai on Sunday, .

    The stand out performance came in the 100m's.

    Justin Gatlin of the United States cruised to victory in a new world-leading time for the year of 9.92 seconds.

    The 2004 Olympic champion left Jamaica's Nesta Carter in his wake, with fellow American Michael Rodgers taking third.

    Other notable performances came from an unusual double in athletics.

    Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare, after winning the Women's Long Jump. the discipline she won the silver medal in at the world championships, Okagbare took the field apart in the Women's 200 metres.

    And for the home fans there was joy in the hurdles.

    With injured 2004 Olympic hurdling champion Liu Xiang watching from the stands, Xie Wenjun made a late surge to victory in the Men's 110 metre Hurdles.

    Xie clocked a personal best 13.23 seconds to edge out Pascal Martinot-Lagarde of France, with David Oliver of the United States third.
