Santa Clarita was the setting for the penultimate stage of the Tour of California in America on Saturday.

Britain's Sir Bradley Wiggins set about ensuring he kept his 30-second lead over nearest challenger Rohan Dennis.

With a number of high-profile sprinters dropping earlier in the race, Cannondale sensed an opportunity for a stage seven win.

Only 50 to 60 riders survived as the peloton swept onto the finishing circuit, and Greg Van Avermaet and Ben King were the final escapees to be reeled in 3km from home.

There was an embarrassing moment for Eloy Teruel who celebrated as he crossed the finishing line, unaware that there was a lap still to go!

Cannondale's Peter Sagan surged clear to win in 3 hours, 24 minutes and 33 seconds and seal his 11th career success in the Golden State.

Wiggins grew up in London and he'll have one eye on the overall victory ahead of Sunday's final stage.
