    Script:

Andy Murray was knocked out of the Madrid Open on Thursday by a shock defeat to Santiago Giraldo.

38 places behind Murray in the world rankings, Giraldo rattled through the first set in only 38 minutes. Taking the set comfortably 6-3.

The Colombian started strongly in the second and really showed his class with this lob in game three.

Murray narrowly avoided defeat against Nicolas Almagro in his tournament opener on Wednesday, but couldn't avoid it here.

Giraldo, who had never beaten a top ten player, overpowered Murray with his aggressive ground strokes to win in straight sets. 6-3, 6-2.

Fifth seeded David Ferrer didn't have any slip ups though as he contained John Isner's big serving game to win 6-4, 6-4.

Ferrer taking a solitary break in each set to secure his place in the quarter-finals.
