  • Intro:

A neighbour of Oscar Pistorius testified on Tuesday to hearing a man crying loudly and screaming on the night the double-amputee athlete fatally shot his girlfriend.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Barry Roux, lawyer for Oscar Pistorius: (++starts on previous shot++)

"When I consulted with you I asked you about the word 'crying', do you remember? What did you explain to me?"

UPSOUND (English) Nhlengethwa (++OUT OF SHOT++):

"My lady, the way he cried, what I said to Mr Roux was that basically there would be a difference between one that is crying because he's just sad, obviously it will be just normal crying, that you weeping normally. But also there is this crying when you are in danger and when you basically need help. The cry that we heard those early hours of the morning, the person was very desperate for help. So also we felt that probably he is in danger."

    Roux: "Was it loud?"

Nhlengethwa: "Very loud, my lady, it was very loud."

Roux: "You heard this very loud crying, could you hear what the person was saying?"

Nglengethwa: "One thing that I have just picked up there, but obviously other things I couldn't hear properly. It was basically, 'no, please, please, no'."
