  • Intro:

Tomáš Berdych (CZE) defeated Victor Hanescu (ROM) 6-2 6-2 in the semi-finals on Saturday to qualify for his first ever ATP Portugal Open final. The tournament's top seed will play either Carlos Berlocq (ARG) or Daniel Gimeno-Traver (ESP) in Sunday's showpiece.

    Script:

Top-seed Tomáš Berdych was strong favourite to beat Victor Hanescu in the semi-finals of the Portugal Open on Saturday.

The 28-year-old wasted no time in living up to that billing by winning this point before going on to break his Romanian rival.

Berdych then broke Hanescu again and claimed the first set 6-2.

Things went from bad to worse for Hanescu in the second set when he pulled this backhand down the line wide.

The world number 93 was beaten by Berdych in their only previous meeting at Wimbledon in 2008. If Hanescu had any hopes of breaking this hoodoo, they were evaporating fast when Berdych fired off this forehand winner; a Czech speciality.

Berdych wrapped things up to win 6-2, 6-2. The fan of ice hockey team the Detroit Red Wings skates into the final, where he'll take on either Carlos Berlocq or Daniel Gimeno-Traver on Sunday.
