Krzysztof Kasprzak has won Speedway's European Grand Prix on home soil in Bygoszcz, Poland.
He now goes to the top of the World Championship standings.
Script:
Round 2 of Speedway's European Grand Prix moved to Poland.
Reigning world champion Tai Woffinden struggled in the opening event in New Zealand, at the beginning of April and it was the same story here.
The Briton collecting just five points from his five rides.
He was in good company - triple world champion Niki Pedersen, who led the standings coming into this event, didn't make the semi-finals either.
Polish riders Jaroslaw Hampel and Krzysztof Kasprzak gave the home fans plenty to cheer about and came home 1 and 2 in the first semi.
In the second semi, veteran Greg Hancock of the United States showed that he has lost none of the old magic in booking his place in the final.
He was joined by 21 year-old Australian Darcy Ward.
In the final itself, Ward jumped out from the start line to take the lead, but Hampel got himself into first place on the back straight.
He was is in turn overtaken by Kasprzak, and that all took place on the opening lap.
It set the tone for a dramatic climax.
Going into the fourth and final circuit, Ward had the lead and looked well set to protect it off the final bend.
Kasprzak had other ideas though, and dived down the inside to snatch victory.
Ward had to settle for second place, with Hampel taking third ahead of Hancock.
Kasprzak took the honours in front of his own fans and leapt to the top of the championship standings.
He now has 35 points to Nicki Pedersen's 24, with Hampel, Hancock, Holder and Smolinski all on 22.
