Rafael Nadal likes playing at the Barcelona Open.

He had won his last 40 matches in the tournament before he met Ivan Dodig in the third round.

Nadal has won the trophy eight times in the past nine years so it was always going to be tough for Dodig and the Croatian had no answer to Nadal's forehand.

That is 41 in a row then.

"I'm happy with the way that I played today. I played a little bit better than I did yesterday and that is always really positive. I know it is going to be a really tough match against Almagro tomorrow and I need to be ready for that."

Nadal will face fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in the quarter-finals after he defeated Fernando Verdasco to avenge his defeat in the Houston Open final earlier this month.

Marin Cilic recorded his second win over Tommy Robredo this season.

Kei Nishikori awaits Cilic for a place in the semi-finals.
