Stanislas Wawrinka is within sight of his first ATP Masters 1000 victory after his attacking game proved too much David Ferrer in their semi-final encounter at the Monte Carlo Masters on Saturday

Sixth-seeded Ferrer - who had defeated fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals - was broken in his opening service game.

Wawrinka then served out to take the first set 6-1.

A well-timed drop shot moved Wawrinka to 5-2 in the tie-break, and he went on to clinch victory on his second match point and reach the final.

Wawrinka's opponent in Sunday's final will be Roger Federer, making it an all Swiss affair after he beat Novak Djokovic in straight-sets bringing his 13-match winning run to an end.

Djokovic had complained of soreness in his right wrist at the start of the week and took to the court with it heavily strapped.

Djokovic then had two set points in the tenth game, but again he allowed Federer to claw his way back into the match and steal the set by seven games to five.

Federer made quick work of the match, winning 7-5, 6-2 after 75 minutes on court and Djokovic said that he will take a break from tennis to treat his wrist.
