Wednesday was the day when Australian cricket royalty met Great British royalty. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met legendary pacer Glenn McGrath and Australian women's bowler Ellyse Perry at the Sydney Opera House.

The Duchess wore a Roksanda Ilincic shift dress in yellow, the colour worn by Australia’s rugby and football teams, as she greeted children in traditional clothes.

The meeting was organised to showcase the 2015 ICC World Cup and Catherine and William met the tournament's chief executive, John Harnden, and Cricket Australia director, Michael Kasprowicz. The royal couple were then presented with cricket bats and a baggy green -- the cap given to Australian players for each test appearance.

But the event was overshadowed by the resignation of the Premier of New South Wales, who had been due to co-host the reception.

Barry O'Farrell quit on Tuesday morning after he was caught lying to a corruption inquiry over receiving a £1,600 bottle of wine as a gift.
