Britain's Prince William and his wife Catherine played cricket in Christchurch on Monday (14 April), as they continued their tour of New Zealand.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in New Zealand and took the opportunity to fly to Christchurch to meet the families of the victims of the 2011 earthquake.

Following their encounters with the families, the couple had a game of cricket.

New Zealand and Australia will host the upcoming 2015 Cricket World Cup and organisers put together a temporary wicket in Christchurch's main square.

The royals jumped at the opportunity to have a bat and bowl with the locals.

And despite their attire, both put their skills on display with Kate having to manage the perils of William's bowling and her high heels.

The Duke of Cambridge then had a go with the bat, impressing the crowd with a good knock.

William and Kate went on to tour the Transitional Cathedral, a temporary structure built largely out of cardboard, after the original was badly damaged in the earthquake.

They were also handed several gifts to take home to baby George by the crowds present to greet them.
