    Script:

Michael Phelps is coming out of retirement, the first step toward possibly swimming at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The 22-time Olympic medallist will compete for the first time since the 2012 London Games at a meet in Arizona, on April 24th-26th.

Phelps returned to training last Autumn and re-entered the U.S. drug-testing programme.

Phelps turns 29 in June and is the most successful athlete in Olympic history, winning 18 gold medals and 22 medals.

Last December Phelps revealed he wanted to get back into shape:

SOUNDBITE (English) Michael Phelps, 18-time Olympic champion:

"Over the last year I have had an amazing time being able to travel the world and I want to be able to start getting back into physical shape for myself more than anything. That is something that I need to do. Something that I want to do. That's why I am doing it. If that leads me into swimming again then so be it."

Dependent upon results, Phelps could compete at the U.S. National Championships in August in Irvine, California, where selection will take place ahead of the 2015 world championships.
