Connecticut beat Kentucky to win NCAA national championship

    The University of Connecticut defeated the University of Kentucky to win the men's NCAA college basketball championship.

    The Huskies never trailed as they saw off the Wildcats 60-54 in Arlington, Texas in Arlington, Texas.

    Nearly 80,000 fans were on hand at AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys, for the national championship game between the University of Connecticut and the University of Kentucky.

    Basketball a bit tougher to watch from the back than American football.

    Ryan Boatright made a layup in the first half that gave UConn a 17-8 advantage. Boatright finishing with 14 points.

    Shabazz Napier also sank a 3-point jumper for UConn as they opened up a 24-12 lead in the first half.

    Among the spectators in the stadium, not one but two former US Presidents, Bill Clinton and George W Bush.

    Napier continued to impress in the second half. Another Napier jumper put the Connecticut Huskies up by 48-39.

    He ended up with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists in the game and was selected the Most Outstanding Player at the Final Four.

    The Kentucky Wildcats tried to fight their way back into the game and James Young drove the lane for a dunk that cut their deficit to 48-41.

    A jumper from Boatright gave UConn a 56-50 edge, but then a dunk by Alex Poythress of Kentucky made it a 56-52 game.

    But they couldn't get any closer. DeAndre Daniels made it 58-52 and UConn held on to win the national championship by 60 points to 54.

    UConn never trailed in the game and claimed their fourth national championship.
