Mushtaq honoured to work with the Windies

Tuesday, April 01 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq now wears the West Indian colours, and the bowling coach spoke about his loyalties ahead of their crucial pool match against Pakistan at the ICC World Twenty20.

When asked where his loyalties would be in the crunch game at Mirpur on Tuesday (April 1st), Saqlain said he is an honest professional and would fully support his team as they look to progress to the semi-final.

Mushtaq hit the limelight in his playing days for inventing the 'doosra' - a ball which is now part of every off-spinner's armoury.

And it's something the former Bangladesh coach is proud of being associated with.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE (English) Saqlain Mushtaq, Bowling Coach, West Indies

"When I had a call from the head coach and director of cricket from (the) West Indies, I thought it's a great opportunity for me and it's a honour for me to go and work. Obviously I'm working for them now. I'm feeling the same the way I felt for Bangladesh. As I mentioned in my previous answer, as a faith, as a belief, I've (got) to be honest. The shirt is not on my body. This logo is not on the body. This should be in the heart. This is part of the faith of a Muslim. So, you know, I'm feeling great and it's a honour for me that I'm working for the West Indies".

"I feel so good if somebody does 'doosra' and whenever they mention my name and I say that I, thanks to God that God gave me that honour that people are mentioning my name with that doosra."
